What happened to Lost Mary disposables

Single use disposable vapes became illegal to sell across the UK on 1 June 2025. The GOV.UK guidance covers the detail, but the short version is that anything you cannot recharge and refill can no longer be sold.

That ended the original Lost Mary BM600 disposable and every variant of it. The brand did not disappear, it rebuilt. Everything sold under the Lost Mary name today is rechargeable, and the pods are replaceable rather than thrown away with the device.

If you are searching for the old disposables, you are not going to find them legally anywhere in the UK. What you want instead is the BM6000, which is the direct replacement and works out considerably cheaper per puff.

The BM6000 system explained

The BM6000 is the clever bit of the current Lost Mary range, and it is not quite like anything else on the market. You buy a prefilled pod that comes with a separate refill bottle in the same pack.

You use the pod as supplied. When it runs out, instead of binning it you top it up from the bottle that came with it. That gives you roughly three times the liquid of a single prefilled pod for a fraction more money, and it is why the BM6000 lasts so much longer than the disposable it replaced.

How to refill a BM6000 pod

Wait until the pod is genuinely empty rather than topping up early, because mixing a nearly finished pod with fresh liquid muddies the flavour.

Open the fill port on the pod, insert the nozzle of the refill bottle and squeeze slowly. Fill to just below the maximum line, not to the very top, because leaving a small air gap is what stops liquid being pushed into the airway. Close the port firmly, then let the pod stand upright for three to five minutes before vaping so the wick saturates.

That last step is the one people skip, and skipping it is the most common cause of a burnt first puff on a freshly filled pod.

The BM6000 is the strongest value argument the brand has. A pod plus refill pack delivers around three times the liquid of a plain prefilled pod, for nowhere near three times the price.

Against the old disposables the difference is stark. You are buying roughly 6ml of liquid in a pack rather than 2ml in a sealed device you throw away, and the device itself is a one off purchase you keep.

Getting the most from a pod

Let a freshly filled pod stand three to five minutes before the first draw. Take slow, long draws rather than short sharp ones, since these are mouth to lung devices. Keep pods upright and away from heat, because warm liquid thins and works its way past the seals.

Expect one to two weeks from a pod before the flavour dulls. Sweet flavours shorten that, sharper fruit and ice flavours extend it.

Troubleshooting

Burnt taste. The wick dried out, usually from vaping straight after refilling. A scorched wick cannot be recovered, so fit a fresh pod and let the next one stand.

Leaking after a refill. Overfilled. Fill to just below the line and leave an air gap.

Gurgling. Liquid in the airway. Remove the pod and tap it gently mouthpiece down onto kitchen roll.

Device not firing. Charge it first, then wipe the contacts on both pod and device with dry kitchen roll.

UK rules that apply here

Choosing your nicotine strength

UK law caps e liquid at 20mg per ml, so every decision sits below that ceiling. A twenty a day smoker usually needs 20mg nicotine salt to feel satisfied. A ten a day smoker is normally comfortable at 10mg. Prefilled pods are supplied at 20mg because that is what most people switching from cigarettes require.

Two signals tell you the strength is wrong. Headaches, nausea or a scratchy throat mean it is too high, so drop down. Vaping almost constantly and still wanting a cigarette means it is too low, which is the more dangerous error because it is what sends people back to smoking. Adjust rather than concluding vaping does not work.

Your first week off disposables

Order the kit and at least two flavours together. Running out mid week is the most common practical reason a switch collapses.

Charge the device fully before first use, fill or fit the pod, then wait five minutes. If you have just stopped smoking, expect the first two or three days to feel slightly wrong. The hand to mouth habit transfers instantly, but the throat sensation takes longer to settle.

Keep the device on you. The most common relapse pattern is leaving it at home, buying cigarettes out of convenience, and never picking the vape back up.

When a pod is finished, do not put it in general waste. Most supermarkets and vape shops now run take back points for used pods and devices, and many councils accept them at household recycling centres.

Storage and travel

Keep refill bottles upright, sealed and out of direct sunlight. E liquid degrades slowly with light and heat, and a bottle left on a windowsill will taste noticeably duller within weeks.

For flights, the device travels in hand luggage only, in line with the rules for all lithium battery items, and it must not go in the hold. Liquids follow the standard 100ml cabin restriction.
